I started at GasBuddy as a designer for a product called OpenStore.
After working with OpenStore I was asked to move to the GasBuddy team as their graphic designer.
I then changed positions again when the company switched hands and I had the opportunity to be GasBuddy's UI/UX Designer.
GasBuddy's purpose for a user was to find you cheap gas.
Here is a list view of all the stations near you so you can find the cheapest gas or the station that fits your needs.
The app also features a map view to give you a different perspective on where stations are in relation to you.
To reward our users, we had many awards and collectable badges that we gave them for doing certain tasks.
This helped keep less used parts of the app busy, and also gave our users a little delight at certain times.
They loved it.
One of the main features of GasBuddy is that it is driven and updated by our users.
This includes gas prices, new stations, amenities and ratings.
Onboarding for new users was fun, simple and included some nice animations and imagery to make the app inviting.
Users could win gift cards for entering gas prices.
This was a great way to up our engagement and if they lost, we got to show them an ad or an offer.
While working at GasBuddy as a UI/UX Designer, I also took it upon myself to create the video to be shown in the App Store and Google Play Store.
I designed and helped implement various animations for the app including this sequence when you unlock new badges.
